Waste time AND learn!
Nov 30th, 2005 by Jordan
I’m the kind of person who did horrible in college. I barely graduated. Why? Because I can’t stand being required to do something — especially things that bore me. And college is all about doing boring things (studying) with things you don’t care about (mathematical statistics). But I’m a person who loves to learn — and that’s the rub! I love to learn, but it has to be learning about things that I want to learn about or things that are really interesting at the moment. So, I’ve created this mental list of websites that I can learn on, but also just use to waste time when I’m bored. Just browsing a site like the ones below can bring you to new information you never knew about, and teach you things about the world, too. Let’s look at some examples:
- Wikipedia: This should be at the top of anyone’s “sites I like to learn at” list. If you’ve been too busy reading newspapers or something lately, let me update you — Wikipedia is a collaborative encyclopedia. Anyone can contribute by editing pages. It is the largest encyclopedia on Earth, being much bigger than your standards like Brittanica. Want somewhere to start? Howabout this?
- ShoutWire: This is a child of Digg, which is primarily a technology site. ShoutWire, however, is for a broader range of topics, and can lead you to some very interesting sites.
- MSN.com: Surprised? Don’t be. The MSN portal often has some great content that is useful and informative. Most of their money articles are spot-on and give practical advise.
- LifeHacker: And for good measure, you can forget this? Lots of great links and tutorials on how to make your life a little easier, and a little more productive. I’d recommend it to everyone as a daily read!
Got more? Comment me up, baby!
