The simplest assertation is that I love this one little pharmacy. But it’s really not all that simple, since I only love parts of it.
Let’s start with the bad stuff: Walgreens associates are some of the slowest neanderthals on Earth. Never has there been a more aggrivating line to stand in than a Walgreens check-out line. Most of those who run the registers are either goth-type teens or waifishly thin heroine junkies. Unfortunately for us, though, even when they aren’t at the register you won’t find them anywhere else. They just dissapear into the floor.
The film development area is barely any better. The associates there are always short and film is never ready in an hour.
And, although I’m getting the go the good part, I will say that the pharmacy can be slow and inefficient. Long lines are constant there and they are only now hiring a load of new people to start evening out their shifts.
So why do I love Walgreens? Because of two things:
1. Online prescription refills. I hate the phone, and I hate having to call to do things. Either you get someone completely clueless on the line, or you don’t get anyone at all. So the ability to pop on to the Walgreens website, see my complete list of prescriptions, choose a prescription and pickup time, and have that all done within under two minutes is the height of convenience and modernism.
2. ExpressPay. Why every retail company in America is not using this, I don’t know. This wonderful little feature allows you to set up your credit card with the Walgreens website, and any time you use their pharmacy services, you will automatically have your card charged. No need to present your card. No need to swipe your card. No need to sign anything. Show up, get your prescription, leave. The security issues are a bit worrisome, but the target is perfect: who really wants your meds but you?
Combine these two things, and you’ve got a winning combination. Being that I have three prescriptions (2 x allergy meds and an acne medication), I am refilling a lot. Now I just drive up to the pharmacy after requesting a refill and I’m done. Walgreens, for making this one part of my life better, I love you.
